Castello Vicchiomaggio. It is a name full of evocations and references. One would almost come to imagine it described in a fairy tale, as the romantic abode of a princess or as a sumptuous rendezvous for an amorous gathering in a novella from the Decameron. It is a sweet-sounding and somewhat ancient name for this castle, and the same might be thought of the landscape that surrounds it. It is in Tuscany, in Greve in Chianti, recognizable in the unmistakable outline of the imposing crenellated tower that guards the solid walls and, all around, almost as soaring sentinels, the classic silhouettes of the cypress trees that surround it. The castle, once called Vicchio dei Lambardi, changed its name to Vicchiomaggio in the Medici era, because it was here that the Florentine nobles celebrated the Calendimaggio. And even today, Castello Vicchiomaggio, close to Florence and Siena, is an ideal place for parties, banquets, events and tastings.
From an ancient defensive fortress, because of its strategic location, it has been transformed over time into a place of delights. Whether weddings, receptions, events or tastings of the excellent wine produced by the ‘farm that currently has it under management, in this magnificent castle everything becomes a celebratory occasion and party. Around the castle the typical Tuscan landscape of olive trees, vines and cypresses and a beautiful Italian garden that enriches the setting. Inside, frescoed halls, imposing Renaissance fireplaces, luxurious environments that combine the style of tradition with the care and expertise of the most qualified hospitality professionals.
Those who choose it to celebrate their wedding really have the feeling of entering into a fairy tale and living in an atmosphere where time and space seem to stand still. More and more often, precisely to prolong such an immersive experience, many newlyweds, especially foreigners, decide, together with their guests, not to limit themselves to choosing Castello Vicchiomaggio only as the location of the event, but to create the occasion for a community vacation, albeit of only a few days, where the sharing of beauty and celebration makes every moment experienced unforgettable. This was also the choice of Danielle and Matthew, a young Canadian couple who, together with their fifty guests, will find it difficult to forget the magic of this fabulous place.
Their “yes” pronounced in front of such a spectacular landscape and that the speeches of the guests, made afterwards even more exciting, their ability to express with spontaneity and lightness the feelings they felt, the cheerfulness and warmth of their friends, the splendor of the tables set for a princely banquet, the hall with the large windows that the setting sun lit up with golden orange, creating beautiful cuts of light, the dancing, the joy. And to give hospitality to all this exultation, better than the beautiful Castello Vicchiomaggio who could have?
